There’s something incredibly special about an intimate, off-season wedding. As a San Diego wedding photographer I had the pleasure of capturing Kathy and John’s February celebration at The Brigantine at Portside Pier, and honestly? It was a reminder that you don't need a huge guest list to throw a powerful, emotional party.

The Brigantine is a total gem if you’re looking for those quintessential San Diego harbor views. Because it’s right on the water, the light is usually incredible, even in winter. We got so lucky with the golden hour light that day; watching the sun dip behind the skyline while the harbor lights started to twinkle was a photographer's dream.

Another major benefit of choosing The Brigantine at Portside Pier is its convenient location. Multiple hotels are located directly across the street, making it incredibly easy for out-of-town guests to attend. But beyond the views, it was Kathy and John’s story that really stayed with me. Getting to witness them find love again was so moving. They kept the day simple, focusing on the people who matter most, which gave us so much freedom to capture genuine, unscripted moments.

Valentine’s Day-Inspired Wedding Decor in February


They leaned into the February date with subtle Valentine’s-inspired reds and pinks that popped perfectly against the coastal blues of the venue. It was a great reminder that winter weddings in San Diego are totally underrated. You get the crisp air, the amazing sunsets, and usually a bit more breathing room with your planning.
